Quantum
Book one of the Quantum Trilogy
by Roy Magara
“Warm enough?” He smiled with reassuring eyes.
“Yeah… yeah thanks,” I nodded in approval.
“You are caught up in a shadow war, child.” The Future continued, “One in which you have no choice but to be a part of. One in which the forces of darkness have reared their ugly head against the world as we know it, and there is only one way to stop it.
At the forefront of this shadow war is a formidable queen of sorrows which the history books will not compare to write about for fear of future generations being scarred with the memoirs of the past. One feasted upon by evil and darkness, greed and corruption, and tastes nothing but the coveting of subverting all that is good and pure known to us all. I have seen the death. I have seen the pain. I have seen the lack of courage in the hearts of men as they melt like snowmen in the ferocious forest fire. I have heard the children scream; the lost boy shouting for his mother. I have smelt the ash pour from the skies like confetti, blown in the wind of despair. I have tasted of the loss of all that are held dear to me in the two realms.”
He paused and gazed at me.
“A shadow war which, indeed, was once held in the silence of the realms, but now the seal is broken, and the time to act has never been so necessary as it is now.”
“Wha… what is it… he… she… what is…?”
“She goes by the name ‘La Sombre Une’,” the Future said.
My eyes dotted about the ground, as I blinked for memory to flag up what that meant.
“But that’s French for…”
“Yes, child. La Sombre Une: ‘Dark One’.”
